FG Reschedules Inauguration of Tertiary Institutions Governing Councils

The Federal Ministry of Education has announced the indefinite postponement of the inauguration of Pro-Chancellors, Chairmen, and Members of Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions, initially scheduled for Thursday, 30th, and Friday, 31st May 2024.

According to a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the postponement follows a presidential directive conveyed through a State House Press Release dated 23rd May 2024. This directive mandates a comprehensive review of the membership of the Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

The statement reads: “The Federal Ministry of Education regrets to announce the postponement of the Inauguration and Retreat for Pro-Chancellors, Chairmen, and Members of Governing Councils of Federal Tertiary Institutions, earlier scheduled for Thursday, 30th, and Friday, 31st May 2024. We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Further updates will be communicated in due course.”

The review aims to ensure better representation of the national character in the governing councils of federal tertiary institutions.

A new date for the inauguration will be announced once the review is completed.
