Kwara govt assures residents of safe meat for consumption

The Kwara State Government has reaffirms its commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of meat products for consumption, promoting good hygiene practices for the welfare of its people.

Speaking at a workshop organized by the State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES), in collaboration with Bolaniks Agricultural Enterprises and Consultancy Services, Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq emphasized the importance of food safety and public health in the state’s agricultural sector.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the critical role of the livestock industry in food security, underscoring the need for continuous training and capacity development for stakeholders in the livestock supply chain.

The workshop aims to enhance understanding of meat handling protocols, improve meat product quality, and mitigate the risk of meat-borne illnesses among consumers.

Addressing participants, Mr. Olusoji Oyawoye, the State L-PRES Project Coordinator, praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s support for the livestock sector’s development and public health initiatives.

Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, the State Director of Public Health, emphasized the importance of collaboration among ministries and stakeholders to safeguard both human and livestock health.

Dr. Abdulateef Olugbon, Director of Veterinary Services, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, expressed appreciation for the state government’s efforts in advancing the livestock sector.

Dr. Idiat Aminu, Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) responsible for Public Health and Epidemiology, Ministry of Agriculture, stressed the workshop’s role in educating butchers about the dangers of selling unhygienic meat to consumers.”
