Tenure Elongation: Oyo Students dissolve exco, constitute electoral c’ttee

The Oyo State Students under the aegis of Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU) has dissolved the current executives of the union while also constituting its electoral committee.
The students while holding its National Congress at Emmanuel Alayande College of Education in Oyo
on Friday maintained that the current administration had overstayed its two  years in office as opposed the
 constitutional provision of 12 months.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and made available to Campus Focus,  a student of Ibadan Polytechnic Kilotomo Rafiu Adeyemi while moving motion for the immediate suspension of all stand in committees and subcommittees of the executive and senate arm, accused the national leadership deliberately occupying office beyond the specified period. The motion however was approved having been seconded by representative from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education Comr. Adewale Mutiu.
Meanwhile, the Congress has constituted an electoral committee to usher in a new set of executive to run the affairs of the union for the next 12 months.
According to the statement, the following are  members of the committee; Comrade Oluwaseun Omotayo of Federal University of Agriculture,  Abeokuta as  Chairman, Comrade Bamidele Oluwaseun of University of Ibadan as Secretary while Comrade Alao Oluwasegun Oluwatobi of Ladoke Akintola University of technology is to serve as the Public Relations Officer.
Other members of the committee include: Comrade Azeez Roqeeb (Ekiti State University), Comrade Bamigbopa Ramoni, Adewale MEMBER (Ibarapa Poly), Comrade Arewa Sulaimon (Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta), Comrade Salahudeen Ayinde (University of llorin), Comrade Kilotomo Rafiu Adeyemi (The Polytechnic, Ibadan) and Comrade Fatai Azeez (Osun State Polytechnic, Iree)
While addressing the congress earlier, the National President, Comrade Azeez Sharafudeen Akano presented the achievements of the union under his leadership, and other engagement in students’ rights activities among others.
The Congress lauded the executives for their immense contributions to studentship in the state and emphasised that there is no doubts the present FOSSU national executives have made impact and history on series of students oriented programmes.
 They also appreciated the executives for defending the core values and interest of the pace setter state  students on many instances.
There was however serious debate on  the overdue stay in office of the current regime and the delay in the process of transiting to the next dispensation.
Among those present at the Congress are:  members of the FOSSU  national executives,  the  Senate arm led by the Deputy Senate President , Clerk, Deputy Clerk and the Chief Whip.
Also in attendance were:  stakeholders from Ibadan, Ibarapa, Ogbomosho, OkeOgun and Oyo, Zonal Presidents representatives from FIBSU, FIBSA, FOGSU, NAOS, NAOOS, FOSSU Chapter Presidents across all institutions in Nigeria as well as the stand-in committee Chairman for FOSSUIEC.
