Officer Detained Following Accidental Discharge in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has detained one of its officers following an accidental discharge resulting in the death of one Oyebuchi Anene in Abuja.

Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.

Adeh revealed that the tragic incident occurred in the Byazhin area of Abuja on Wednesday around 9:45 pm.

The Superintendent of Police stated that Commissioner Benneth Igweh has ordered an investigation into the matter.

Furthermore, Adeh mentioned that the Commissioner directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department to initiate an immediate and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding Anene’s death.

Igweh conveyed his profound condolences to the bereaved family and the general public.

Expressing condemnation, the CP denounced the unprofessional and disheartening behaviour of the police officer involved.

He assured both the family and the public of swift justice.
