OAU VC cautions against Spread of Fake News

Just as the nation battles the spread of coronavirus, the Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU), Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, has called on the public to shun the spread of fake news.

Ogunbodede made the call while addressing the University community in a broadcast through its twitter handle on Thursday, 9th April, 2020.

According to him, spreading unverified news at this critical time in the country, has attracts great consequences.

The Vice Chancellor however urged anyone who experience high fever symptoms to contact health centres for necessary checkups.

“Please contact the health centres and other designated outlets if you experience any symptoms of cough, fever and chest pain or breathing difficulty.

“Finally, It is important to avoid the spread of fake or unverified news through social media or other channels. This has grave health and national security consequencies and should be avoided at all cost.” He said

While expressing optimism that coronavirus will in no time be a thing of the past, the Vice Chancellor said “Let us remember that every dark moment is transitory and there is always light at the end of every tunnel. This time will definitely pass, if we comply. We shall overcome.” he added.
