Some Beneficiaries of National Social Investment Program–Npower, took to the street of Abuja, on tuesday, to demand payments of their 3-month accumulated stipends, from March2020-May2020.
The Beneficiaries were seen carrying placards with various inscriptions, like: Npower, Pay our 3months stipends. We Are Vulnerable in this period. We Are Dying of Hunger. We Can’t Breath. Npower Beneficiaries Weeps. #PayOurMarchAprilAndMayStipends
The protesters said, over eighty thousands of Npower Beneficiaries nationwide, both Batch A and Batch B, haven’t been paid March, April and May Stipends by Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajia Saiyya Farouq. They added that, the honourable minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster management, allegedly removed their names from Npower Payroll without any reasons.
The protesters later headed to National Assembly Complex, Abuja, to register their displeasure over nonpayment of their 3months stipends. They, however, pleaded on the leaders of National Assembly, to compel the Minister to pay their stipends, as the nonpayment has colossally affected their livelihood.
It would be recalled that, Npower Beneficiaries had last week, embarked on social media protest, over nonpayment of their stipends. This, they said, yielded no response from the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
Npower Scheme is one of the National Social Investment Program of the Buhari’s administration. It started in 2016 and it has 500,000 Beneficiaries presently.
