Kwara Leaders Commemorate Nigeria’s 25 Years of Democracy

On Democracy Day, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians as the nation marks 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.

Governor AbdulRazaq paid tribute to the heroes and heroines who valiantly fought for the democratic freedoms currently enjoyed across the country.

He noted the importance of honouring their sacrifices by demonstrating patriotism and actively contributing to development efforts that bolster the nation’s democratic framework.

Acknowledging potential challenges on the democratic journey, Governor AbdulRazaq urged Nigerians to remain resolute and steadfast in their commitment to democratic ideals, with the goal of building a more prosperous and enduring nation.

“Happy Democracy Day,” he concluded, addressing the nation as both the Governor of Kwara State and the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, also extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of uninterrupted democracy in the country.

In his message, he described the silver jubilee as a significant milestone worthy of celebration.

He paid tribute to the sacrifices of past heroes who fought for the establishment of democracy in Nigeria, emphasising that democracy has firmly taken root and matured in the nation.

Danladi-Salihu assured that lawmakers, as part of the democratic institution, are committed to strengthening and deepening civil rule to ensure that every Nigerian benefits from the dividends of democracy.

“As we mark this historic day, I wish all Nigerians a happy Democracy Day,” he stated.

Danladi-Salihu serves not only as the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly but also as the Chairman of the APC Conference of Speakers in Nigeria.

Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central and the esteemed Turaki of Ilorin, also extended warm congratulations to Nigerians on the occasion of this year’s Democracy Day.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey towards freedom, justice, and democratic governance, Senator Mustapha highlighted the importance of June 12 in the nation’s history.

He noted that this day symbolises the collective determination of the Nigerian people and the enduring spirit of democracy.

He called on Nigerians to embrace patriotism and renew their commitment to democratic values such as equality, accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights.

“Our democracy is a continuous journey, and every citizen has a vital role in nurturing and sustaining it.

“By coming together and setting aside our differences, we can build a stronger, more inclusive Nigeria,” the Kwara Central lawmaker stated.

While celebrating the progress made so far, Senator Mustapha urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their dedication to democracy.
