Kaduna shuts Telecom companies, others over tax default

The Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service (KADIRS), has taken decisive action against tax defaulters across the state.

Acting under the authority vested in it by Section 104 of the Personal Income Tax Act, KADIRS sealed up several business premises and telecommunication masts for unpaid taxes.

According to a statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service, Zakari Jamilu Muhammad and made available to The National Telescope, among the affected entities are telecommunication giants, MTN and Glo, with their masts in various locations within Kaduna being sealed due to significant tax liabilities.

Similarly, Mudassir & Brothers and Albabello Trading Company have had their operations halted for failing to settle their taxes obligations.

The sealed locations include: MTN mast (IHS) – Tafawa Balewa Way Unguwan Rimi, Kaduna, GLO Mast – Shehu Laminu Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna, MTN Mast (IHS) – Surami Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna and MTN Mast (IHS) – Etsu Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna.

Others are masts hosting MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9-Mobile (ATC) – Nagwamatse Road, Kaduna, including MTN (IHS) – Nagwamatse Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna as well as MTN (IHS) – Shehu Laminu Road Unguwan Rimi Kaduna.

In a similar occurence, Mudassir & Brothers, located at Ahmadu Bello Way central market, and Albabello Trading Company, situated at Malam Madori Panteka Market, have been affected by this enforcement action.

The total amount of unpaid taxes stands at N5.8 Billion for the telecommunication companies and N56 Million for the businesses mentioned.

This crackdown underscores the Kaduna State government’s commitment to ensuring tax compliance and revenue generation for developmental projects within the state.
