A pressure group, Pension Rights Advocacy PRA has alleged massive favouritism in the implementation of pension and gratuities to retired civil servants in Akwa Ibom state.

In a release signed by the chairman of the group, Mr. Effiong Utip and secretary, Mr. Benjamin Benson, the group complained that the consultant is not paying their entittlements on basis of merit.

According to them, the pension and gratuity, approved by the state governor are paid on recommendation from people who are connected to the seat of power, while the connected names are omitted from the list of payment.

They however appreciated the state governor, Past. Umo Eno for acting responsibly, by releasing monies for the payment of gratuities and other legitimate entitlements.

The group, also expressed dismay, that some people are paid full, while others are paid part of their legitimate entitlements. They advised that since the consultant have no complete data of the teachers, he should rather collaborate more with the pension unit for adequate figure before commencement of payment.

”We are worried that some of those who were paid part since 2022, when the payment began , have not been able to get the balance of their payment till date.

Those who do not know how much they are entitled to, went home with whatever they received”.

In their prayers, they demanded that the consultant should work with the pension unit to get adequate data so that he will not omit some names since they all have equal to their entittlements.

Finally, they demanded an end to perceived favoritism in the payment process.
