Accolades as UI graduate organises Inter-School Competition during Service

Aremu Ridwan, a graduate of the Department of Mathematics, University of Ibadan has been lauded for organising an Inter-Secondary School Mathematics Competition during his Service.

Ridwan, who is currently undergoing his one year compulsory service with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Sagacity Int’l College, Abaomege, Onicha LGA, Ebonyi state was commended by the community for introducing the outstanding idea to schools in the community.

Speaking in a statement made available to CAMPUS FOCUS on Thursday, the Principal of the Community Secondary School, Abaomege, the host school, Mrs Uka Ogar, noted that the competition which engaged students from different schools in Mathematics is first of its kind in the state.

While appreciating the NYSC Management for supporting the concept, she enjoined all serving Corp members to always innovate new ideas whereever they are serving.

The keenly contested competition which took place on Wednesday 18th March 2020 at Community Secondary School, Abaomege, Onicha LGA Ebonyi state, had participants from 8 Schools which includes: Community Secondary School, Abaomege, Community Secondary School Oshiri, Community Secondary School Inshinkwo, Stella Maris College Ukawu, Nwaliobu Alo Memorial Secondary School, Sagacity International College Abaomege, Standard Foundation College Abaomege and Hephzibah Comprehensive College Abaomege, all in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State.

Meanwhile, a SS2 Student, Augustine Uchenna, of Community Secondary School, Inshinkwo, won the first position with a score of 57% having attempted objective and theory questions.

The first runner up was Ali Diamond, an SS3 student of Hephzibah Comprehensive College, Abaomege, while the second runner up was Ekpe Benita, an SS3 student of Community Secondary School.

In his remark, Corper Aremu Ridwan urged the participants to shun mathematics Phobia, as it affects their ability to understand the subject.

He however appreciated NYSC management and other corps members serving in the Local Government for their support.

The event which featured presentation of prizes to the winners, presentation of certificates to participants, donation of Mathematical Materials to Host School had in attendance Principals of invited schools and all serving corps members in Abaomege.
