Zamfara Varsity Students, Staff Freed After Seven Months In Kidnappers Den

Students and staff members of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State, who were kidnapped by bandits, have been released after spending seven months in captivity.

The victims were abducted during an attack in the Gusau area back in February.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, confirmed their release in a report shared on X on Monday. The report stated, “Abducted students of Federal University Gusau and staff regain freedom.”

While the details surrounding their release remain unclear, sources suggest that security forces played a crucial role in securing their freedom.

Zagazola noted, “It was gathered that the students and staff were kidnapped during an attack by bandits in February.”

This news brings much-needed relief to families and the academic community, who have been anxiously awaiting the safe return of their loved ones. Zagazola added, “After spending an extended period in captivity, it has been confirmed that all the abducted individuals have returned in good health.”

In September 2023, reports indicated that a significant number of students from the Federal University Gusau were kidnapped by bandits, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region.
