Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has sworn in Yakubu Sani Haidara as the new Head of Service (HoS), alongside 12 newly appointed permanent secretaries.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Old Chamber of the Government House in Gusau, marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing public service reforms.

Governor Lawal praised Haidara as a seasoned bureaucrat with over three decades of experience in public administration.

He stressed that Haidara’s appointment was based on his proven merit and dedication to public service.

“This is an opportunity to apply your wealth of experience in improving the civil service and ensuring greater efficiency in service delivery,” Lawal said.

The Governor tasked the new Head of Service with leading the ongoing public service reforms, aimed at making the system more efficient and responsive to the needs of the people.

“As the Head of Service, you are entrusted with overseeing the permanent secretaries and ensuring that government policies are effectively implemented,” Lawal added.

Regarding the new permanent secretaries, Governor Lawal highlighted the rigorous selection process, which involved refresher courses, written exams, oral interviews, and ICT-based assessments conducted by the Public Service Institute of Nigeria.

He emphasised that the reform of the appointment process was designed to ensure that only competent and professional individuals were chosen to lead the public service.

The governor also urged the permanent secretaries to align their work with his administration’s six-point agenda.

“As accounting officers, your role is key to delivering good governance and implementing the administration’s policies effectively,” Lawal stated.

Additionally, the Governor introduced the creation of a new office, Coordinator of Donor Activities and Programmes, under the Office of the Executive Governor.

This office, to be led by a permanent secretary, will oversee the coordination of donor and development partner programs, collaborating with relevant ministries and agencies.

“This new office will ensure that all donor activities are effectively aligned with the state’s priorities and implemented with maximum impact,” the statement concluded.
