The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has mobilized 2,500 officers to ensure safety and security during the festive season.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC 1 Ayoola Michael Shola, in Ilorin. The deployment will cover all 16 local government areas in the state, with officers drawn from specialized units including the Armed Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Operation Harmony, and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) Unit.

Additionally, the Anti-Vandal Unit and plainclothes operatives from the Intelligence and Investigation Department will conduct round-the-clock surveillance and patrols at recreational centers, markets, worship centers, and critical government infrastructure.

The Commandant of the Kwara NSCDC, Dr. Umar J.G. Muhammed, assured residents that the Corps is prepared to guarantee a peaceful celebration, pledging to collaborate with other security agencies and local vigilante groups to tackle any potential threats.

“We want to assure the good people of Kwara State of our unwavering commitment to a peaceful and safe Yuletide. Our officers are on high alert to ensure that no criminal disrupts the festive season,” Dr. Muhammed stated.

He issued a stern warning to vandals, reminding them of the severe penalties stipulated by law. “The Corps will not tolerate any form of vandalism. Offenders risk up to 21 years in prison without the option of a fine. This should serve as a deterrent to those considering such acts,” he warned.

Dr. Muhammed also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities. “Security is everyone’s business. We urge citizens to work with us to maintain peace,” he added.

The Commandant extended his Christmas and New Year greetings to the people of Kwara, emphasizing the Corps’ dedication to their safety during the celebrations.
