Former governor of Yobe State, Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, had died at the age of 75.
He reportedly died at a Saudi-Germ Hospital in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday after protracted illness.
He is survived by two wives one of whom is the former state minister of Foreign Affairs and a current member representing Tarmuwa/Gulani/Damaturu/Gujba, Hon Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim;17 children, and grandchildren.
Abba who was in office during the Third Republic between January 1992 to November 1993 was re-elected and sworn in on May 29, 1999 and served for two-term under the All-Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).
He was also a Senator representing Yobe East between 2007 and 2019 when he stepped down for the current minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Geidam.
Meanwhile, the Yobe state government has announced that the state would take over the funeral.
This was made known in a statement, by the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to Governor Mai Mala Buni, Mamman Muhammad, on Sunday.
The governor who described the death of Abba as a big loss to the state and the people directed that all other aspects of the funeral and condolences would be taken over by the state government to accord the late governor a state burial and honour.
