Work Set to Resume on Vital Kano-Abuja Highway, says Umahi

The Federal Government has declared that construction will recommence on the crucial Abuja-Kano Road project later this week.

This was disclosed in a meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday with contractors, Minister of Works, David Umahi, affirmed this development, highlighting that previous halts were due to issues regarding pricing adjustments, delays, and financial constraints.

Umahi assured stakeholders that the ministry had successfully resolved these challenges with the project’s contractors, paving the way for progress.

Providing updates on the Lagos-Calabar highway project, Umahi revealed substantial advancements, particularly on sections two, three, and four, where six-lane stretches have been established. He emphasised the completion of over four kilometers of concrete road on six lanes, highlighting the absence of outstanding payments owed to contractors despite alignment changes.

Regarding ongoing efforts, Umahi disclosed that sections three and four of the project were nearing completion, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure nationwide.

Furthermore, Umahi disclosed President Bola Tinubu’s directive to initiate the design phase for the Sokoto-Badagary road, envisioned as another vital six-lane corridor. He underscored its multifaceted economic significance, which encompasses opportunities for agriculture, power generation through irrigation, and facilitation of trans-African trade.

The announcement signifies a significant step towards bolstering Nigeria’s infrastructure and fostering economic development across various sectors.
