Dr. Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has firmly stated that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike will not be joining the APC.
Okocha emphasised that Wike has repeatedly expressed his loyalty to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), attributing his success to the party.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Okocha declared, “Wike will never leave the PDP. He is a staunch supporter of the party and is unlikely to switch allegiances.”
He also addressed claims that the 27 Rivers lawmakers currently in conflict with Governor Siminalayi Fubara have defected to the APC, clarifying, “Despite wishes to welcome them, none have joined us. The situation is a political maneuver. To defect, they would need to register at their wards and obtain membership cards, which they have not done.”
Okocha acknowledged Wike’s significant influence on Rivers politics, stating, “Wike has achieved much for the state, and his impact will endure over the next decade.
It will be challenging to displace him politically.”
He noted that Wike’s contributions have earned him strong support among the people of Rivers, asserting that Wike is committed to any cause that benefits his constituents, regardless of political affiliation.
