The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land title of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat, located in Abuja’s Central Area, over non-payment of ground rent for 20 years.
The revocation notice was detailed in a letter signed by the Director of Lands Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, dated March 13, 2025.
The letter, titled “Notice of Revocation of Right of Occupancy with File No. MISC 81346 in Respect of Plot No 243 within Central Area (A00) District, Abuja,” cited continued violations of the terms and conditions of land ownership.
This decision comes just 24 hours after Wike revoked 4,794 land titles belonging to property owners who had defaulted on ground rent payments for more than 40 years.
According to the notice, the PDP failed to pay its annual ground rent from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025, despite repeated warnings from the FCT Administration. The letter emphasized that this prolonged default contravened the provisions of the Land Use Act.
“You would please note that the said breaches by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), National Secretariat (MISC 81346), run contrary to the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act,” the letter stated.
It further declared that the land had now reverted to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), which would take immediate possession of the property.
