Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that the rift between Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State, has escalated to a point where reconciliation is no longer possible.
Wike and Fubara have been locked in a fierce struggle for control over the political landscape in Rivers State, leading to a deeply divided state assembly and numerous court cases.
Speaking on Channels TV, Fayose described the situation as “unfortunate,” recalling how he had previously advised Fubara to steer clear of conflict with Wike.
“I told him right after his election to avoid Wike’s trouble,” Fayose noted, emphasizing that his advice had been given out of goodwill.
Addressing the current state of affairs, Fayose remarked, “The crisis has crossed the Rubicon. Things have gone too far. Even if efforts were made to resolve it, how do you rebuild trust? I believe it’s too late for reconciliation now.”
He added that the political divide in Rivers State is likely to have lasting consequences, with both leaders standing firm in their respective positions.
