Alumni Association, College of Education Ilorin, has explained that it’s visit to the former provost of the institution, Prof. Abdulraheem Yusuf, is not a deliberate attempt to affect the progress of the school.

Recall that National Telescope reported the visitation in a publication dated November 2, 2021, headlined ‘Former COED Ilorin, Provost, breaks silence says ‘I’ve been vindicated’.

However, a statement signed by the former Students Union Government (SUG), President of the College, Comrade Akanbi Muhammad Shitta and made available to National Telescope recently, stressed that the visit was aimed at expressing their love to the former provost based on his achievements.

The statement read in full, “The backlash that has trailed the recent publication occasioned by our visit to the former Provost of our college who we considered a father is the reason for this reaction.

“As alumni of the school, the College remain our alma mater and we owe everything we are or will be in the nearest future by His Grace to the College and our teachers. Hence, it should be on record that, we will never ever do anything that will in any way undermine the wheel of progress of the College.

“It must also be emphasized that, our love for the former Provost was the great difference he made in the College within the short period of his stay. We visited him out of our own volition and we do not regret to have done so.
Again, we are not happy with many negative developments and inconveniencies that the school and students are passing through based on students reports. It was based on this, that we stated what was published and we did not intend to cause any embarrassment to the public.

“As good ambassadors of the institution who will not wish her to nosedive into the sorry state it was before the tenure of Prof. Abdulraheem Yusuf, we cannot afford to fold our arms. It’s our believe that, bringing the concern of students and stakeholders to the fore would help us chart a better course for the development of our Alma mater.

“Therefore, we denounce any inconvenience the publication might have caused members of the public as a result of misinterpretation or misrepresentation.

“We also wish to state that, we do not intend it to be a prejudice against the ongoing process.” He added.
