Why Ogun Speaker was impeached – Gov Abiodun

The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has explained the rationale behind the impeachment of the state Assembly’s Speaker, Mr. Olakunle Oluomo,

According to the governor, there had been long-standing “internal wrangling in the Assembly that had persisted and degenerated despite several interventions.”

This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, on Thursday.

Oluomo was impeached on Tuesday by 18 members of the Ogun State House of Assembly and immediately replaced by another lawmaker, Oludaisi Elemide, representing the Odeda State constituency.

The impeached speaker was reportedly attending the swearing-in of customary court judges by the governor at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta; a few metres away from the Assembly complex when his colleagues moved against him.

The statement reads, “The Government of Ogun State has keenly taken note of the events on the floor of the Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday regarding the alleged impeachment of the Speaker of the Assembly, Honourable Olakunle Oluomo, by members of the legislative arm during a sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Honourable Bolanle Ajayi.”
