“Why not travel by road” – Nigerians react as Buhari cancels flight to Zamfara over bad weather

Nigerians have called out on President Muhammadu Buhari over his inability to travel to Zamfara State on the grounds of bad weather.

Buhari was scheduled to visit the zamfara state today, Friday 28 January, 2021 to sympathise with the government and the people of the state over the killings of innocent lives by terrorists.

The President was also supposed to be in the state from Sokoto State where he was to commissioned some projects but he went back to Abuja.

Explain the circumstances surrounding his inability to embark on the trip as scheduled, Buhari in a recorded broadcast posted on his facebook page on Friday, said the trip was cancelled as a result of bad weather. He however went back to Abuja.

He said, “My dear people of Zamfara State, it pains me that I can no longer be with you today as I had planned, I just finished what I came to do in sokoto… and looking forward to meeting you. I have been told that the trip hold anymore because of bad weather which has made it impossible for the helicopter to fly to gusau from sokoto. I understand how you feel about this development but I know you will agree with me that Allah knows best.”

Responding to Buhari’s post, some Nigerians agued that the President should have used the road if not for the fear of bandit.

One Dauda B Abubaka wrote, “Mr President, if d weather is not favourable for air trip why not take d road if d trip matters a lot to u. The road trip from Sokoto to Gusau will give u even clear picture of d plight of d people, d condition of d Federal road linking d states and as well d security of d roads. U goofed! Big goof.

In the same vein, Mubash Ahmad wrote “There is nothing like bad weather PMB. How many kilometers is between sokoto to zamfara. I guess there is security report dats why u refused to visit zamfara. Never seen this kind of cabinet in my life,they can’t protect the lives citizens and yet the whole president is scared of traveling by road bcz of attack or kidnapping that may occur due to negligence and poor governance by PMB.

Olalekan Ogunesan wrote “Baba! Follow road and see the great work and billions you spent in constructing those roads sir.

Similarly a facebook user identified as Somtochukwu Henry wrote “No bad weather when you travel to London. All this while you have been flying in the air, no bad weather. But to visit the most terrorize part of the country you are complaining of bad whether. Northerners with block head will still believe you.

Also, Joseph Okpanachi wrote “I guess is the fear of bandit sir! The weather is not bad. We have learnt that the bandit have migrated to a more sophisticated stage of using missile. You are probably scared of this. The Government should keep treating them with soft hand. Soon Nigeria will turn
to Afghanistan.” He added.

According to one Jeffrey Idudhe, “Bad weather for dry season ??? Sorry sir”
