The Oyo Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has explained the reasons for the suspension of the traditional ruler of Ido town in the Ido Local Government Area of the state, Oba Gbolagade Babalola (Gbadewolu I).
The governor in a statement by his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade on Friday, said the monarch was suspended over his alleged involvement with illegal miners.
It will be recalled that the an explosion that rocked recently rocked Adeyi Avenue, Old Bodija, in Ibadan, the state capital, which killed five people and injured 77 others with 58 house damaged was linked to the storage of explosives in a residential area by suspected illegal miners.
However, Makinde in the statement said the Monarch’s suspension would send signals to those aiding and abetting criminals within their territory.
He said, ” “In the light of our recent experience and the government’s daily efforts to rid our land of criminals, we are sending the signal to all like-minded elements to vacate our zone or be caught and brought to justice.”
