Why I seperated from Oshiomhole – Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has revealed that one of the major issues between him and former Governor Adams Oshiomhole stemmed from his decision to organize a state burial for Chief Tony Anenih, a prominent leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Obaseki made the revelation during a campaign event in Esan North East Local Government Area, where he introduced the PDP’s candidates, Asue Ighodalo and his running mate Osarodion Ogie.

At the time of the state burial, Obaseki was still a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His relationship with Oshiomhole was already strained due to disagreements over party and governance matters.

Speaking to supporters at Okpujie Demonstration Primary School in Uromi, Obaseki explained, “When Chief Tony Anenih passed away, I arranged for a state burial because I believed he deserved it.

Oshiomhole questioned this decision, arguing that Anenih was not an elected official. However, I felt Anenih had contributed significantly to our state and nation, deserving such an honor.”

Obaseki emphasized the need for unity in Edo State and highlighted his support for the Esan people to produce the next governor. He criticized the APC, alleging that their candidates plan to undermine the democratic process.

“Edo must remain united, and it is time for the Esan people to have their turn at the governorship.

APC’s strategy involves impeaching their candidates shortly after they are elected and taking control of the state,” Obaseki claimed.

He added, “Esan has produced notable figures such as Chief Anthony Enahoro and Chief Tony Anenih.

To now have a candidate like Monday Okpebholo, who does not measure up, is an insult to the Esan people.”

The governor urged his supporters to intensify their campaign efforts in preparation for the September 21 governorship election.

Ighodalo, in his speech, praised Uromi as the PDP stronghold and promised to continue the development projects initiated by Obaseki.

He criticized APC policies for worsening the economic situation and vowed to bring improvements to Edo State.

John Yakubu, former chairman of Esan North East Local Government Area, announced that over 4,000 canvassers have been mobilized to promote the party’s message of progress and growth.
