We Will Priotise Skills Development, says Katsina Gov

By Alimi Micheal

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State emphasized on Tuesday that his administration will prioritize youth skill development, viewing it as essential for peaceful coexistence.

In his message marking the 2024 World Youth Skills Day, themed “Youth Skills for Peace and Development,” Radda highlighted the importance of youth skills in fostering peace and sustainable development.

The United Nations General Assembly has designated July 15 as World Youth Skills Day to emphasize this crucial role.

The governor’s message, conveyed through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, outlined several initiatives aimed at youth empowerment:

“Our youth are not just the future; they are the present. We have revitalized the Katsina Industrial Development Centre, creating an environment conducive to learning and innovation. This upgrade, which includes new access roads, enables our young people to acquire essential skills.

“The revival of the Katsina Youth Craft Village goes beyond preserving our heritage. It is about equipping our youth with skills that can sustain livelihoods and promote our rich culture.

“In collaboration with the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association, 3,000 young mechanic apprentices will undergo training. This initiative prepares our youth for the evolving automotive industry, fostering both employment and entrepreneurship,” Radda stated.

The governor also stressed the importance of women’s empowerment, noting, “We recognize that peace and development require the participation of all. That’s why we’ve partnered with the Enterprise Development Centre of Pan Atlantic University to train 10,000 women across all local government areas in Katsina state. These women are now better equipped to contribute to our state’s economy and stability.

“On this World Youth Skills Day, we reaffirm our commitment to nurturing a skilled, peaceful, and productive youth population. Our initiatives are not just about job creation; they are about building a resilient, harmonious Katsina State.”
