We Remain Strong Despite Political Crisis – Rivers’ Gov

By Chuks Peter

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence in his leadership, stating that despite the ongoing political challenges in the state, he remains unwavering, drawing strength from his faith in God.

The governor emphasised that the recent political crisis was not a setback, but rather part of a divine plan to guide the state toward a new era of growth, development, and political emancipation.

Governor Fubara made these remarks during a special Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, held in honour of His Royal Majesty, Eze Chike Worlu Wodo, Eze Oha Apara IV, who was recently appointed Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council.

The service, held at the Shepherd’s Hill Parish of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Mgbuoba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, was a moment of reflection and thanksgiving, bringing together religious and traditional leaders.

In a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara spoke about how, despite the tumultuous political atmosphere, he has become even more resilient, attributing this strength to divine intervention.

The service was an opportunity for the governor to publicly express his gratitude for God’s guidance and to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to serving the people of Rivers State in the fear of God.

“We are not weakened by what many consider challenges,” Fubara declared. “Rather, we see these as God’s way of ushering us into a new direction. From the very beginning of our journey, God has elevated us.

This strength has only grown, and we are becoming bolder and more determined to lead with faith and conviction,” he said.

He added that while his administration may not be flawless, their commitment to God and to doing His will will ensure that their leadership will ultimately be judged positively. “Our story will be one of those who led with the fear of God.

At the end of the day, we want our actions to be a testimony of divine guidance, and we will ensure that we leave no room for the devil to have victory over our efforts,” Fubara said.

Reflecting on the exuberant display of gratitude from Eze Chike Worlu Wodo during the service, Fubara likened it to the biblical story of King David, who famously danced before God with unabashed joy and reverence.

“King David’s deep love for God was shown in how he worshipped without shame,” Fubara remarked. “It is inspiring to see a traditional ruler of your age display such vigor and reverence for God. May God continue to elevate you, beyond all expectations.”

The governor also expressed his happiness at worshiping in one of the most thriving churches in Nigeria, emphasising the power of thanksgiving, especially when situations may appear uncertain.

He shared with the congregation that no matter how difficult things may seem from a human perspective, God’s purpose will always prevail in His own time.

“Thanksgiving brings clarity. Even in the face of challenges, it assures us that God is with us, guiding our steps. I joined this family to give thanks to God and to assure our people that because we have placed God at the forefront of our administration, our story will indeed end in praise,” Fubara assured.

The governor also urged the church to continue supporting his administration through prayers, particularly for peace and stability across the state. “Your prayers are vital,” he said.

“Just like a deposit in the bank, your quiet and faithful prayers are heard by God. We trust that every prayer offered on our behalf is answered. I thank you all, and I want to assure you that our administration will continue to uphold the fear of God in everything we do.”

As a token of his appreciation and in recognition of the church’s vital role in spreading the gospel, Governor Fubara donated ₦100 million to Shepherd’s Hill Parish.

The donation, which will support the church’s evangelism efforts, was made in honor of Eze Chike Worlu Wodo’s appointment as Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council, as a symbol of his commitment to supporting both the church and traditional institutions.

In his closing remarks, the governor encouraged the people of Rivers State to remain steadfast in their faith and trust in God, assuring them that despite any political upheaval or challenges, their state would emerge stronger, more united, and on a path to greater prosperity.
