Senator Sumaila Kawu, representing Kano South, has disclosed that he earns a total of over N21 million monthly.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Kawu revealed that while the official salary set by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is N1 million, this amount drops to around N600,000 after deductions.
However, additional allowances bring the total monthly earnings to N21 million.
This revelation comes just a day after RMAFC Chairman, Mohammed Shehu, stated that each senator’s salary and allowances amount to N1.06 million per month.
Shehu’s statement aimed to clarify the ongoing debate over lawmakers’ earnings.
Kawu explained that the substantial amount includes various allowances for office operations, newspaper expenses, local travel, and other costs.
