In a tragic turn of events, terrorists have unleashed terror in Kakangi and Unguwan Matinja communities, located in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Reports indicate that eight vigilant members and two civilians have lost their lives in the onslaught.
The village heads of Kakangi and Kisaya villages, snuggled within Kakangi Ward, have been forcefully taken by the assailants.
Eyewitnesses recount the harrowing experience, detailing how armed men stormed the villages in the early hours of Thursday. Idris Khalid, a resident of the area, confirms the brutal attack, highlighting the names of those who tragically lost their lives.
Among the deceased vigilante members in Kakangi are Bala Kamba, Abdurrahman Musa (Ubale), Kabiru Dan Dugui, Hambali Abu, Aliyu Abu, Nura Jika (Maleka), Mubarak Musa (Dan Wamba), and Ikra Hantsi. Meanwhile, Christopher Abubakar and Isah Gambo fell victim to the Ungwan Matinja community.
According to Khalid, the vigilantes bravely confronted the terrorists in an attempt to rescue the abducted victims, who were seized en route to a burial. Despite their valiant efforts, they were unable to free the village chiefs and others.
He laments the loss of the gallant vigilante officers who have consistently risked their lives to safeguard the community from such atrocities.
In response to the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, assures that investigations are underway to ascertain the full details of the tragedy, acknowledging challenges posed by communication networks in the area.”
