Renowned social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, often known as “very darkman,” has been released from Abuja police prison.
Lawyer and rights campaigner Deji Adeyanju, who practices in Abuja, verified his release on Sunday.
The notorious 27-year-old Nigerian, who is well-known for embracing all things controversial, has been in the center of attention lately.
Omoyele Sowore, a former presidential contender, said that Otse was detained in police custody for days on suspicion of cyberbullying.
Angry at the arrest, Sowore pointed out that the authorities were hiding behind the Cybercrime Act in order to apprehend Otse.
Adeyanju tweeted on Sunday, March 31, confirming his release: “After five days of back and forth, we have secured VDM’s release.” I’d like to thank everyone who helped make this possible. Especially SOWORE, Kefiano, and VDM’s wonderful lawyers.”
