Valentine’s Day: Oyo Warns Event Organisers on Safety Measures

The Oyo State Government has issued a strong warning to corporate organisations, event planners, and individuals hosting Valentine’s Day celebrations, stressing the need to prioritise safety and security.

Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the directive comes in anticipation of increased social gatherings on February 14.

He emphasised that all organisers must collaborate with security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, and Operation Burst.

According to him, the involvement of security operatives is crucial to ensuring proper logistics and a secure environment for all attendees.

Beyond security, Oyelade highlighted the need for strict health and safety measures. He urged event planners to ensure proper hygiene, good ventilation, and adherence to health advisories. Additionally, they must coordinate with medical personnel when selecting venues to ensure adequate healthcare support.

The Commissioner stated that the Oyo State Ministry of Health and the Hospitals Management Board, along with private healthcare providers where necessary, must be involved in planning to provide medical assistance at events.

Prince Oyelade warned that failure to adhere to these directives would lead to serious legal consequences. He urged organisers to act responsibly to prevent any incidents during the Valentine’s Day celebrations.
