University of Ibadan Debunks Robbery Attack

By Faith Toye |

The University of Ibadan (UI) has dismissed reports of a robbery attack at one of its Halls of Residence, clarifying that it was a case of a lone thief, not an armed robbery.

In a statement signed by the University Registrar, Ganiyu Saliu, the institution expressed dismay over what it described as misleading reports circulating in the media.

“The Management of the University of Ibadan has read with concern the news about a lone theft incident in one of the Halls of Residence. It was a single individual who gained access to two rooms and stole mobile phones belonging to students. The rooms were left open by the students themselves,” the statement read.

According to the university, the thief fled as soon as an alarm was raised, and campus security personnel responded immediately. The police were also alerted, and efforts were made to apprehend the culprit.

UI further emphasised that no students were harmed or traumatised during the incident and reassured the public of the safety and security of lives and property on campus.

The university urged the public to disregard exaggerated reports that misrepresent the incident as an armed robbery.
