UnIlorin VC, Egbewole, Applauds AbdulRazaq’s New Sarduana Title

Kwara state Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has received widespread acclaim following his appointment as the Sarduana of Ilorin by the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

Among those who have praised this honour is the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN.

In a statement issued by the University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun, Prof. Egbewole described the title as a fitting recognition of the Governor’s outstanding leadership and contributions to the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State.

He noted that the Sarduana title, which holds significant cultural and traditional importance, is a well-deserved honour for AbdulRazaq.“Governor AbdulRazaq’s appointment as Sarduana of Ilorin is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the development and progress of our state and the Ilorin Emirate in particular.

“His exemplary leadership, commitment to peace, and tireless efforts to uplift the lives of the people of Kwara have rightfully earned him this prestigious title,” Prof. Egbewole remarked.

The Governor’s impact as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has been notable, particularly in fostering peace and harmony across Kwara State.

His administration has also been praised for making significant strides in sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, earning him widespread respect among traditional rulers and community leaders.

As Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), Prof. Egbewole emphasised the Governor’s positive influence on education in Kwara, especially at the University of Ilorin.

“The University has greatly benefited from the Governor’s supportive policies and initiatives. His commitment to providing a conducive environment for learning and research has been instrumental in the University’s growth and success,” the Vice Chancellor added.

Prof. Egbewole also expressed gratitude to the Emir of Ilorin for conferring such a significant honour on the Governor, underscoring the deep connection between Kwara’s leadership and its traditional institutions.

“The Sarduana title is one of the highest traditional honours in Ilorin Emirate, and it is heartening to see it conferred on someone who has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to our traditions and values,” he said.

Prof. Egbewole expressed confidence that AbdulRazaq will excel in his new role, using it as a platform to further unite the people of Kwara and advance the state’s development agenda.

“We are confident that Governor AbdulRazaq will continue to lead with distinction, upholding the values of the Sarduana title and working tirelessly for the betterment of our state. His legacy as a leader is already well-established, and this new honour will only strengthen his resolve to serve the people of Kwara with even greater dedication,” Prof. Egbewole concluded.
