Unilorin New Council Chairman Vows to Boost University’s Global Ranking

Surveyor Abiodun Aluko, the newly appointed Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, has outlined his plans to elevate the institution’s global standing over the next four years.

A former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Surv. Aluko has committed to enhancing the institution’s national and international rankings.

During an interactive session with key members of the university community, including the Provost, Deans, Directors, Union leaders, and Student Union executives, he emphasised his goal to leave the university in a better position than he found it.

Acknowledging the challenges in university administration in Nigeria, such as the reduced autonomy due to the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), Aluko pledged to collaborate with the Conference of Pro-Chancellors of Federal Universities to address these issues.

He stated, “My extensive experience in university governance will guide our efforts to restore the autonomy and efficiency needed for effective management.”

Aluko highlighted the importance of leveraging intellectual resources, political connections, and industry partnerships to overcome financial constraints and strengthen the institution.

He also stressed the need for ongoing staff training to align with global standards.

“We must harness all available resources and continuously upgrade our staff to maintain excellence,” he said.

He applauded Unilorin for its stability and crisis-free status, attributing this success to the dedication of its staff.

“Our goal is to position Unilorin among the top 100 universities globally by the end of my tenure,” he declared, urging continued cooperation from all stakeholders to achieve this ambition.

Addressing students, Aluko called for peace and dialogue, recognising their critical role in the university’s progress.

He assured staff and stakeholders of fair treatment and the importance of communication in resolving conflicts.
