Unilorin commisserates with victims of campus auto crash

The management of the University of Ilorin has described as unfortunate, the motor accident which claimed five lives on the campus, 10pm Monday, November 6, 2021.

The University sympathised with families of the deceased and those who sustained fatal injuries in the accident, in a statement signed by the institution’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun.

The statement reads, “The management of the University of Ilorin received with sadness news of the unfortunate auto accident that occurred on campus on Monday in the evening.
The said accident resulted in some fatalities while some occupants of the cars involved also sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“We commiserate with the parents of the deceased and beseech Almighty God to comfort them in this trying period.

“We also condole with the entire student body of the University on the sad loss of their colleagues. Management also wishes the injured quick and total recovery.”

Meanwhile the institution has cautioned road users to abide by traffic rules in order to avert future occurrence.

Two of the deceased were said to be students while two others are couples who were on board a mini bus when the accident occurred.

Unconfirmed reports said the fifth injured person involved in the accident died on Tuesday, raising the death toll to five.

Meanwhile the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi in a telephone chat with National Telescope disclosed that he is yet to receive official report on the incident.

He said, “although I heard there was an accident in the school but l am yet to get an official report on the incident. I will get back to you as soon as l get official report on the incident.”
