UI VC Seeks Security Chiefs Support to Tackle Insecurity

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, has sought the collaboration of security chiefs in Oyo State to address the nation’s growing security challenges.

Professor Adebowale led a team from the university on courtesy visits to top security officials, including the General Officer Commanding the 2 Mechanised Division of the Nigerian Army, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, and the Director of the Department of State Services.

During these visits, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the need for a multi-dimensional approach to tackle security issues, which have become increasingly complex.

He emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between academia and security agencies to promote peace and order, particularly among youth.

Professor Adebowale expressed gratitude for the support provided to the university in both peaceful and challenging times.

General OG Onubogu, GOC of the 2 Mechanised Division, commended the Vice-Chancellor’s outreach, affirming that the Army would continue to work with other security agencies to maintain peace in the state.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Ayodele Sonubi thanked the university for offering academic advancement opportunities to police personnel and affirmed the ongoing positive relationship with the institution.

Mr. Rasheed Adeyinka Adelakun, the Director of the DSS in Oyo, pledged enhanced support, noting the importance of academia in national development and ongoing DSS efforts to secure campuses.

Professor Adebowale was accompanied by senior university officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Peter O. Olapegba, Registrar Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, and Dr. Benjamin A. Aluko, Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence in Multidisciplinary Studies.
