UI Receives TETFund Assurance Amidst Flood Safety Concerns

The University of Ibadan has received the assurance of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund on the prevention of flood in the campus.

Accordinf to a statement on Wednesday, Honourable Sunday Adepoju, representing the Southwest on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) board, gave the assurance during a recent visit to the institution.

He emphasized TETFund’s commitment to averting potential disasters at the university. Concerns over the condition of Awolowo Hall prompted this visit.

Honourable Adepoju clarified that while reports exaggerated the situation, preventive measures were indeed necessary.

He assured that TETFund would prioritize channelization efforts to prevent flooding in Awolowo Hall and surrounding areas.

Accompanying him were Arch. Babatunde Olajide, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, and Engr Taiwo Lukman, Southwest Zonal Coordinator.

They were received by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, who led them on a tour of the campus.

Professor Olapegba highlighted proactive steps taken by the university to address recent flooding, attributing it to blocked drainage systems. He emphasized the need for additional measures in flood-prone areas like Awba Dam and Ajibode Extension.

Recognizing the financial challenges, he appealed to the Federal Government and TETFund for ecological support, stressing the broader impact on neighboring communities.
