The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan, chaired by Chief Adebisi Akande, CFR, former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-Governor of Osun State, recently held its inaugural meeting.
All members attended except for one Federal Government appointee who was abroad.
The Council addressed several key issues, including the approved schedule of fees for new and returning undergraduate students for the 2023/2024 academic session, as recommended by the University Senate.
Students are advised to complete their registration and fee payments by Wednesday, September 4, 2024, to allow departments to prepare for the First Semester Examinations.
While the Council understands the financial strain on students, it emphasized that the fee adjustments are necessary due to current economic conditions and the University’s commitment to quality education and research.
The Council encouraged students to explore the National Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and other scholarships available to assist those in financial need.
Additionally, Chief Adebisi Akande has directed that any payments due to him as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council be used to support undergraduate students studying Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
He views his role as a national service and will not take any remuneration.
His allowances will be used to fund scholarships or other awards for deserving students, with any shortfalls covered by the Adebisi Akande Foundation.
