The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has achieved a significant milestone in healthcare delivery, attending to nearly 300,000 patients in 2024. According to the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, the hospital performed about 6,300 surgeries across different theatres and treated and discharged around 20,000 patients. Additionally, the hospital recorded about 2,100 births in 2024.
The hospital’s daily outpatient attendance averaged over 1,500, with a significant success rate in treating patients. Prof. Obaseki emphasized that despite the challenges, the hospital maintained a high level of service delivery, ensuring patients had access to essential resources.
The UBTH’s 2024 End of Year/Award Night was held to recognize and reward exceptional staff, departments, and units that contributed to the hospital’s success. The event highlighted the hospital’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to Nigerians.
It’s worth noting that other sources report the hospital performed over 40,000 surgeries in 2024, showcasing the hospital’s dedication to providing comprehensive medical care.
