UBEC Debunks Allegations of Criticising Kwara Schools, Labels Report ‘Misleading’

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has firmly refuted a recent media report that alleged it criticised the state of schools in Kwara State. UBEC described the report as entirely false and misleading.

In an official statement issued by Unwaha Yahaya Ismaila, Special Assistant to the UBEC Executive Secretary, it was clarified that no comments were made regarding the condition of schools in Kwara or any other state during the recent Master Trainers’ workshop held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ismaila emphasised that the Executive Secretary did not deliver any speech addressing the condition of schools in either Kwara or Kogi states during the visit.

The focus of the workshop, which included participants from Kwara, Kogi, and other southern states, was exclusively on training and did not involve discussions on the state of education in these regions.

Simultaneously, a similar workshop was held in Bauchi for participants from the northern states, further underscoring that the agenda of the workshops was strictly educational training, not an evaluation of state educational efforts.

UBEC stressed that the report in question was misleading and assured that it is not the practice of the Executive Secretary to publicly criticise the educational initiatives of any state.

The commission also extended its apologies for any confusion or concern that may have arisen due to the false report, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a constructive and supportive role in the nation’s educational development.
