Two Killed, Scores Injured As Gunmen Invade Lagos Community

A deadly invasion by armed men has left two people dead and many others injured in the Ijegun Egba community, Ori Ade Local Community Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State.

The attack, which occurred on Monday and Tuesday, is believed to have originated from a neighbouring riverine village, Ibasa, following a dispute that began last Thursday.

The victims have been identified as Gbenga Areagbo, a 40-year-old sickle cell patient, and Oladapo Olukoya.

A graphic video obtained by The Nation shows one of the victims lying lifeless on the ground with severe head injuries.

Sources reveal that the attackers removed Olukoya’s body through the jetty to Ibasa.

Although the motive behind the attack is still unclear, it is suspected that land grabbing, cultism, pipeline vandalism, and illegal levies may have contributed to the violence.

Community members have reported previous incidents of harassment and robbery by the gunmen, starting last Thursday.

A native of Ijegun Egba, Kudus Fadiku, alleged that the attackers were thugs from Ibasa.

The police have been informed of the incidents, but no arrests have been made yet. Community leaders have condemned the attacks and urged the authorities to take action to prevent further violence.
