Tragedy struck on Saturday night as two children lost their lives and seven others were injured in a serious road accident on the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road.
The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number AGL36JA.
The crash, believed to be caused by overloading and excessive speed, saw a total of nine individuals involved: seven adult males, one male child, and one female child.
The injured were rushed to Ifo General Hospital, while the deceased were taken to the hospital’s morgue.
Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed that the accident happened at Kere, Itori.
The FRSC Itori Unit Command carried out a rescue operation on Saturday, 31st August 2024, at around 11 p.m.
Okpe stated, “The crash was a single-vehicle accident involving a white Toyota Camry.
The male and female children were killed, while the seven adult males sustained various injuries. The injured were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and the deceased were moved to the morgue.”
Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, criticised the accident as a result of the driver’s and passengers’ blatant disregard for safety, highlighting the dangers of overloading.
He urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations to avoid similar tragedies.
Fasakin extended his condolences to the victims’ families and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
