In light of alarming reports surrounding alleged criminal activities at the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has taken a firm stance by ordering an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter.
This directive follows a series of media exposes that have raised serious concerns about the operations within the correctional facility, prompting calls for accountability and reform.
Addressing the situation, the minister condemned the reported infractions and highlighted the importance of maintaining discipline within the correctional system.
Speaking through his spokesman, Babatunde Alao, Tunji-Ojo made it clear that any personnel found involved in misconduct would face strict consequences.
“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my nose. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law.
The leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) must provide explanations,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
His remarks reflect a growing commitment to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability within Nigeria’s correctional facilities.
The minister assured citizens that the government is dedicated to addressing any form of misconduct and restoring public trust in the correctional system.
“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities,” he added.
In an effort to ensure a thorough investigation, the minister has encouraged the general public to share any pertinent information that could assist in uncovering the truth behind these allegations.
“The minister calls on the general public to provide any relevant information that may aid in the investigation,” the statement concluded.
This proactive approach from the Minister of Interior underscores the urgent need for reform and oversight within the correctional system, aiming to create a safer and more accountable environment for both inmates and staff alike.
