Trump Appoints Karoline Leavitt as Press Secretary

US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Karoline Leavitt as his new White House press secretary, making her the youngest person to ever hold the position.

At just 27 years old, Leavitt, who previously served as press secretary for Trump’s election campaign, will now take on the high-profile role of managing communications for his administration.

She also currently serves as a spokeswoman for his transition back to the White House.

In a statement, Trump praised Leavitt’s performance during his campaign, saying: “Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the national press secretary on my historic campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House press secretary. Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator.

I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American people as we Make America Great Again.”

Leavitt expressed her gratitude to the president in a post on X (formerly Twitter): “Thank you, President Trump, for believing in me. I am humbled and honoured. Let’s MAGA.”

As White House press secretary, Leavitt will be the public face of the administration, a position that traditionally involves holding daily press briefings with the media.

However, during his first term, President Trump often broke from tradition by serving as his own spokesperson, frequently engaging with the public through rallies, social media, and press events rather than relying on the press office.

In response to a question about whether he would reinstate regular press briefings during his second term, Trump said at a news conference in August, “I will give you total access, and you’ll have a lot of press briefings. If it’s not daily, it’s going to be a lot. You’ll have more than you want.”

Leavitt, who hails from New Hampshire, is known for her quick thinking and her ability to fiercely defend Trump in media interviews.

She previously worked in the White House press office during Trump’s first term, where she gained a reputation as a sharp and articulate defender of the administration.
