Nigerian troops have rescued 75 civilians, including seven adult males, 34 women, and 34 children, from a terrorist hideout in Sambisa Forest, Borno State.
The successful mission was carried out by the 21 Special Armoured Brigade and the 199 Special Forces Battalion under Operation Desert Sanity IV .
According to Major General Waidi Shuaibu, the General Officer Commanding 7 Division, the operation targeted key terrorist enclaves in Ukuba, Ujimla, Sabil Huda, Garin, Fajula, and Gobara.
The troops not only rescued the hostages but also destroyed facilities belonging to the insurgents, including command and logistics bases, makeshift shelters, and weapon caches.
The rescued individuals received medical and psychological support from the military before being handed over to the Borno State Government.
Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Zuwaira Gambo, praised the troops for their bravery and announced plans to provide the rescued individuals with livelihood support, counselling services, and educational services to help them reintegrate into society.
