In a tragic turn of events in Ilorin, Kwara State, a refrigerator repairer named Yunusa Abdullateef allegedly took his own life after being caught stealing a motorcycle in the Ita Ogunbo area of Ilorin West Local Government.
Eyewitnesses say that Abdullateef was apprehended and publicly shamed by the community, which drove him to hang himself in his room due to the overwhelming shame and fear of social stigma.
The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed the incident, noting that Abdullateef’s body was discovered hanging in his room. His burial has been carried out according to Islamic rites.
This tragic incident highlights the essential need for seeking help and support during crises, rather than taking extreme actions.
