Tobi Amusan Leads Nigerians at Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony

Tobi Amusan, Nigeria’s flagbearer, and team captain Anuoluwapo Opeyori led the Nigerian delegation at the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony on Friday night.

Despite the rain, the ceremony took place along the Seine, with over 200 national delegations sailing past iconic Parisian landmarks like Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre. 

This marked the first time in Summer Games history that the opening ceremony was not held in a stadium. Instead, it unfolded in the heart of Paris, offering a unique and picturesque setting.

Nigeria’s delegation, dressed in green and white, made a striking impression as they rode on a boat. 

Amusan, proudly hoisting the Nigerian flag, was accompanied by Opeyori and other team members, symbolising the nation’s unity and pride.

A total of 88 athletes from Team Nigeria, comprising 63 women and 25 men, will compete in 12 sports at the Paris Olympics. The games commenced on Wednesday and will conclude on August 11. 

The Paris 2024 Olympics are particularly significant as they mark 100 years since Paris last hosted the Games. 

Over 10,500 athletes will compete for 329 gold medals, showcasing their talents and dedication on this global stage.

For Nigeria, the opening ceremony was not just a display of athletic prowess but also a celebration of the country’s rich cultural heritage. 

The green and white attire of the Nigerian athletes stood out against the backdrop of Paris’s historical landmarks, capturing the attention of spectators worldwide.

As the games progress, Nigeria’s athletes will strive to achieve remarkable feats in various sports, from track and field to basketball and boxing. 

Their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics not only highlights their individual talents but also represents the hopes and aspirations of a nation eager to make its mark on the world stage.

The Nigerian delegation’s presence at the Paris 2024 Olympics is a testament to the country’s commitment to sports and its athletes’ determination to excel.
