President Bola Tinubu is currently leading the 18th meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Aso Chambers of the State House in Abuja.
This meeting, the first in six weeks, comes after the President’s recent trips to Equatorial Guinea, China, and the United Kingdom.
Tinubu arrived at the chamber at 12:25 p.m., with only 21 out of his 47-member cabinet in attendance today. Notable attendees include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. George Akume, and the National Security Adviser, Mr. Nuhu Ribadu.
Ministers present at the meeting include Mr. Wale Edun (Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy), Abubakar Kyari (Agriculture and Food Security), Abubakar Bagudu (Budget and Economic Planning), Festus Keyamo (Aviation and Aerospace Development), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Nyesom Wike (FCT), Mohammed Idris (Information and National Orientation), and Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (Interior), among others.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kashim Shettima is in New York, leading Nigeria’s delegation, which includes various cabinet members, to this year’s United Nations General Assembly.
Before the meeting began, Mr. Akume led a minute of silence in memory of former Minister of Women and Youth Development, Mrs. Salome Jankada, who served under former President Olusegun Obasanjo and passed away on August 27, 2024.
