President Bola Tinubu welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday for a high-level bilateral meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between Nigeria and Germany.

The discussions centered on collaboration in energy and economic development, with both leaders expressing commitment to fostering mutually beneficial ties. President Tinubu underscored his administration’s resolve to create a conducive business environment, highlighting Nigeria’s openness to international investment and the progress of ongoing economic reforms.

During the meeting, Tinubu emphasized, “It was a very fruitful discussion. From our earlier meeting today, I can see that our business leaders and policymakers are eager to collaborate with Germany. Our business doors are open, and our reforms are effective. We’ve discussed improving business rankings, and we plan to strengthen our relationship to build a partnership that is fulfilling and rewarding for both our countries, enhancing people-to-people relations and government-to-government facilitation of opportunities.”

Key outcomes of the meeting included Germany’s pledge to invest €4 billion in Nigeria’s green energy sector by 2030, aligning with Nigeria’s goals of economic diversification, job creation, and sustainability. The partnership is expected to position Nigeria as a major player in the global green hydrogen market, which Germany aims to leverage for its carbon neutrality objectives by 2045.

President Steinmeier praised Tinubu’s leadership and the resilience of Nigerians, offering Germany’s support to help Nigeria overcome economic challenges. Drawing parallels with Germany’s past economic transformations, Steinmeier commended Nigeria’s courage and perseverance in implementing bold reforms, stating, “It was not easy; we in Germany faced similar challenges years ago during deep economic crises. It requires a lot of courage and perseverance, which will ultimately benefit your nation. I, along with all in German politics, commend your bold steps and assure you of our support.”

This renewed partnership promises to enhance bilateral ties while fostering sustainable development and economic recovery in Nigeria under Tinubu’s administration.
