President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally decorated the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, with the rank of Lieutenant General.
The ceremony, held at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday, also saw the presence of Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other top military officers.
During the event, President Tinubu praised the military’s bravery, dedication, and patriotic commitment to maintaining Nigeria’s security.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed his appreciation, saying, “It is both an honour and a privilege to decorate you today.
This recognition reflects your commitment and service to the Nigerian military.”
The President assured the armed forces of the government’s support, affirming that their insights are valued and essential for sustaining peace and prosperity in the nation.
“We recognize all that you have been doing to ensure the country is safe and stable,” Tinubu added. He emphasized the progress made in tackling terrorism and banditry, attributing it to the collaboration among the armed forces.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede expressed gratitude for the honour and acknowledged the importance of the occasion.
He reiterated his commitment to maintaining stability and supporting the vision of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, to promote peace across the country.
Lt. Gen. Oluyede (N/9318) began his career with a Regular Combatant Commission in the Nigerian Army on September 19, 1992.
He has participated in key operations, including the ECOMOG mission in Liberia, Operation Harmony IV in Bakassi, and Operation Hadin Kai in the North East.
