President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of the Sector-wide Coordinating Office-Programme Management Unit (SCO-PMU) to enhance the management of external grants under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).
According to a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), the SCO-PMU will report to a Steering Committee/Ministerial Oversight Committee chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare.
Dr. Muntaqa Umar Sadiq, who has over 17 years of experience in public health and related fields, has been appointed by the President to head the unit as the National Coordinator.
The SCO-PMU will oversee programme management, monitoring and evaluation, and fiduciary management, among other functions.
The NHSRII aims to improve health outcomes and human capital in Nigeria, with $2.2 billion mobilised in external financing so far.
