President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the establishment of a disaster relief fund to support Nigerians affected by floods and other natural disasters.
The announcement was made during his visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, where he expressed sympathy for the victims of recent flooding caused by the Alau Dam.
Tinubu emphasized the need for the fund in light of unpredictable climate patterns and urged the private sector to contribute.
He suggested allocating a small portion of the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) funds to strengthen this initiative.
During his visit, Tinubu toured affected areas, met with the Shehu of Borno, and visited an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp.
He commended the prompt response by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the military’s role in evacuating people, saving lives.
He also praised the support of governors across Nigeria who have transcended party lines to aid in relief efforts.
Tinubu extended his sympathy to all flood-affected states, pledging continued government support to help communities recover from the disaster.
